Position Overview:
I am currently assisting my client, a well established Irish civil engineering and utilities contractor, in the recruitment of a Senior Civils Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team in Tuam, Co. Galway.
This is a permanent role, which will involve working for my client directly on a permanent basis, this is not an agency or short term role. I am assisting my client in finding suitable candidates to work for them directly.
The successful candidate will play a key role in securing major civil engineering, utilities and infrastructure projects. They will lead the preparation of accurate and competitive tender submissions, working closely with the company’s Design, Operations, Commercial and Project Delivery teams.
Candidates must have strong estimating experience within the Irish civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure sectors. This is not a general building estimator position.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the preparation, pricing and submission of competitive tenders for civil engineering and utility infrastructure projects.
• Manage assigned tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, negotiation and handover.
• Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings, bills of quantities and contract requirements.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates, pricing models and commercial bid strategies.
• Obtain, analyse and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Work with Design, Operations, Commercial and Project Delivery teams to develop competitive and buildable tender solutions.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering proposals.
• Prepare tender programmes and construction methodologies with the operational teams.
• Support post-tender negotiations and client presentations where required.
• Ensure tender submissions meet the required quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Provide detailed handovers to the project delivery teams following successful awards.
• Support and mentor junior estimators within the wider Pre-Construction team.
• Monitor market conditions, labour outputs, material costs and supply chain developments.
Requirements:
• Significant estimating experience within the Irish civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure sectors.
• Strong understanding of Irish construction contracts, tendering and procurement processes.
• Previous experience pricing projects involving water, wastewater, power, telecommunications, gas, utilities or heavy civils.
• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, labour outputs and supply chain pricing.
• Excellent commercial awareness, numerical ability and analytical skills.
• Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple tender opportunities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Full driving licence and valid permission to work in Ireland.
Benefits:
• Salary of €75,000 to €90,000, depending on experience.
• 5% pension.
