What makes a job high paying in Ireland

Pay in Ireland follows three things: how much responsibility the role carries, how hard the skills are to find, and how directly the role affects revenue or risk.

The best paid roles usually involve some mix of:

  • Leading people, budgets or a whole business

  • Specialist technical or regulatory knowledge

  • Skills that are in short supply in Ireland

  • Direct influence on sales, costs or compliance

That is why a financial controller earns more than an accounts assistant in the same company, and why a commissioning technician can out earn a general electrician.

Executive and senior leadership

Board level roles top the list. Managing directors earn €130,000 to €170,000 in their first three years in the role, rising to €220,000 to €300,000 with experience. Finance directors earn €170,000 to €220,000 and operations directors €150,000 to €200,000.

These salaries reflect accountability for the whole business: profit and loss, strategy, people and compliance. Demand is strongest in construction, logistics, manufacturing and multi site hospitality groups. Hiring at this level is almost always through permanent recruitment, because the cost of a wrong hire is so high.

See the full ranges in the executive salaries guide.

Finance

Qualified accountants who move into control and management roles see some of the steepest pay growth in Ireland.

Role

0 to 3 years

5+ years

Financial Controller

€90,000 to €110,000

€135,000 to €170,000

Finance Manager

€70,000 to €85,000

€100,000 to €120,000

Financial Accountant

€50,000 to €60,000

€75,000 to €90,000

Employers pay most for finance professionals who support decisions rather than just report numbers: forecasting, cost control and business partnering. More in the finance salaries guide.

Procurement and supply chain

Ireland's role as a distribution and export hub keeps supply chain leaders in demand. Supply chain managers earn €110,000 to €140,000 with experience, and procurement managers €100,000 to €130,000. These roles control large budgets and high value stock, so a good hire pays for itself through savings and reliability.

Further down the ladder, warehouse managers earn €80,000 to €95,000 and fleet managers €80,000 to €95,000 at the senior end. See the procurement salaries guide and the warehouse salaries guide.

Construction and engineering

Housing, infrastructure and data centre projects keep construction leaders and engineers in short supply.

Role

0 to 3 years

5+ years

Construction Project Manager

€65,000 to €80,000

€100,000 to €130,000

Site Manager

€55,000 to €70,000

€85,000 to €110,000

Electrical Engineer

€45,000 to €58,000

€75,000 to €100,000

Mechanical Engineer

€45,000 to €58,000

€72,000 to €95,000

Quantity Surveyor

€45,000 to €55,000

€70,000 to €95,000

E&I Supervisor

€55,000 to €68,000

€82,000 to €98,000

Site managers are rated as very high demand in our guide, and many projects bring in experienced people on contract to cover gaps. See the construction, engineering and electrical salary guides.

Technology

Not every IT job is highly paid, but specialist roles are. Cyber security analysts earn €90,000 to €120,000 with experience and are rated very high demand. Software engineers earn €85,000 to €115,000 and systems administrators €70,000 to €85,000.

The premium goes to people who combine technical skill with an understanding of the business, especially in organisations going through system upgrades or compliance driven change. See the IT salaries guide.

Sales and marketing

Sales roles pay well because they are measured directly against revenue. Sales managers earn €100,000 to €130,000 base and business development managers €90,000 to €120,000, before commission. In marketing, performance marketing managers earn €90,000 to €115,000 with experience.

See the sales and digital marketing salary guides.

Hospitality leadership

Hospitality pay varies widely, but senior kitchen and management roles now pay well. Head chefs earn €85,000 to €100,000 with experience, and sous chefs €60,000 to €70,000. Employers running hotels and multi site groups compete hard for leaders who can hold standards and keep staff. More in the hospitality salaries guide.

High paying jobs without a degree

A degree is not the only route to a strong salary. Skilled trades, plant operators, HGV mechanics and chefs can all earn well above the average wage with the right tickets and experience. Electricians, for example, earn €60,000 to €75,000 with five or more years behind them. Our guide to the highest paying jobs without a degree in Ireland covers these routes in detail.

Contract and temporary roles

Some of the strongest earnings in Ireland come from contract work. Project based construction professionals, interim managers and specialist engineers can command premium rates because employers need them quickly and for a fixed period. For candidates, temporary and contract roles are also a proven route into permanent positions once experience is established.

For employers: attracting high earners in 2026

Salary gets a strong candidate to read the advert. These things get them to accept:

  • A clear role scope and a visible next step

  • A total package benchmarked against the market, not last year's offer

  • Flexibility where the role allows it

  • A fast, well run hiring process

Use the Salary Guide to check your offer before you advertise, or talk to our permanent recruitment team about current market rates.

For candidates: moving into a higher paying role

  • Take on people or budget responsibility as early as you can

  • Get the qualifications your sector rewards, such as ACCA, CIMA, CPC or specialist tickets

  • Learn how your work affects revenue and costs

  • Stay open to contract roles that build experience quickly

  • Work with recruiters who know what employers are actually paying

FAQs

Senior executive roles pay the most. Chief marketing officers and managing directors with experience earn €220,000 to €300,000, according to the Total Solutions Salary Guide 2026.

Financial controllers, finance managers, supply chain managers, procurement managers, construction project managers, sales managers and HR managers can all earn over €100,000 with five or more years of experience, along with all director level roles.

Skilled trades and technical roles such as electricians, plant fitters and HGV mechanics can earn €58,000 to €78,000 with experience, and head chefs €85,000 to €100,000. Tickets and experience matter more than a degree in these roles.

Often in the short term, yes. Contract and agency roles can pay premium rates because of urgency and skill shortages, though they may not include the same long term benefits, such as a company pension scheme or a clear progression path.

We review the Total Solutions Salary Guide regularly and update this post whenever the figures change.
